RHS Gold Medalist Robert Barker Endorses the HOTBIN

The HOTBIN system was designed for easy use and environmentally conscious composting. After being diagnosed with arthritis, Robert was faced with the challenge of researching solutions that could adapt to changes in his abilities. Upon discovering our HOTBIN system, he found that a composter with no required turning or tumbling and a smaller footprint was the right product.  It’s lightweight, expanded polypropylene material made home composting possible once again.

Engineered Foam Products has used their expanded polypropylene material to develop a highly insulating, recyclable product. The unique insulation properties of the HOTBIN allows the waste to be composted in a shorter time frame. Insulation is one of the key components to contain the high heat within the unit to compost a wider range of materials in a shorter time.

HOTBIN is a domestic aerobic composting bin designed to utilise the insulation benefits of expanded polypropylene to reduce waste. High composting temperatures allow users to recycle more types of waste faster and to produce usable compost in as little as 30 days.

Its insulation properties create an internal environment that is 32 times faster than traditional compost bins. It heats up to a temperature of 60°C (140°F) or more and contains a bio-filter that removes strong odours often associated with composting. The high temperature and filtering technology allow the user to recycle garden waste, fruits, vegetables and left-over food waste—including small bones.

Robert’s use of the HOTBIN has given him the opportunity to compost a wider variety of waste, including packaging materials, with less effort than other systems. This, in turn, reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills.

When asked about his experience with HOTBIN, Robert commented, “The problem with slatted bins is that they require a lot of work to maintain, they require a large amount of space and have to be turned which requires emptying and refilling.

 “The HOTBIN has a great look and feel to it. It can take a huge amount of waste and the fact that you can compost such a variety of materials into it is incredible. The compost has been great for pots, but when it is fed constantly it will be great for use across the whole garden.”
