Contrary to Popular Belief, Expanded Polystyrene Foam Packaging Can Be Collected, Sorted and Recycled Into New Products

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) foam is versatile and recyclable at many stages of its lifecycle. Due to its excellent properties, it serves a variety of markets and in many, it is used as a primary product or component with long life-cycles. However, EPS is still a preferred material for protective packaging due to is lightweight and cushioning properties.

At Engineered Foam Products, we reprocess all the manufacturing waste by milling or granulating it into pellets and adding it to the production mix without any detriment to the quality of the finished EPS product.

Once the material is granulated, the compacted material is transformed into recycled EPS pellets. These recycled materials are then used to manufacture a wide range of new products.

Engineered Foam Products is committed to providing sustainable packaging products and waste solutions for products at the end of their useful lifecycle. Engineered Foam Products has set up consumer recycling points at all four locations in the UK where local people and small businesses can drop used EPS products. The used material is ground down and dosed back into virgin material to manufacture new products.

All process waste, off-cuts, etc. is also recycled into the production process. Disposing EPS into landfills is the least desirable option among all the waste management alternatives and therefore Engineered Foam Products’ offer is accepting used materials.
