Meet Jill Beasley, People & Culture Coordinator at EFP, as she reflects on her role, career journey, colleagues and nearly 30 years with Engineered Foam Products.

Tell us about your role?

I work in People & Culture (P&C), where no two days are the same. Mondays are usually spent completing weekly payroll for Spennymoor and Northampton. The rest of the week is flexible, filled with meetings, supporting colleagues, reviewing policies and working on projects. There is always something to do, which is why it’s enjoyable.

What’s your earliest memory?

I joined the business in March 1996, when it was Tuscarora. Initially, I travelled to Northampton every week until the Spennymoor plant was ready for production. I remember arriving on my first day and being welcomed by Margaret Willis who immediately put me at ease. Back then in Spennymoor, I was the only person with a computer and even printed production labels.

What do you find challenging?

The most challenging part of my role is dealing with difficult situations. People are different and understanding how best to approach each situation is key. Building relationships and knowing the people you work with really helps.

How has your role evolved?

My role has evolved significantly. I started as a Customer Service Supervisor but also supported P&C activities such as contracts and payroll. I later gained quality assurance qualifications and became the site Quality Coordinator alongside my customer service role. Eventually, I chose to focus on customer service and managing a team before moving fully into P&C.

What do you enjoy most?

The variety of work and the people. Their support keeps me motivated and engaged – we’re like family.

Have you had any mentors and how have they supported you?

I have never really had a formal mentor while working here, I’ve worked independently for the majority of my time. I now report to Margaret Cracknell Chief People Officer who is very supportive and I have learned a lot from her, she is patient and understanding of the difficulties we have to face.

What do you enjoy outside work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. My daughter Nell is now 14, and we’re always busy. I also enjoy eating out, walking, watching films. I have a love of shopping, fashion particularly which I have loved all my life – my colleagues often tease me about it!
